3 Practical Ways to Show You Care in a Fast-Paced World

In our busy lives, we often feel like we never have enough time to say, “I’m thinking of you” or even a heartfelt “How are you.” Life moves fast, and what often gets lost in the speed is our connection with others. During my time of gritty stillness, this became very clear to me. I finally had the space to stop and think about the people I love. I realized I hadn’t reached out to many of them for months. It wasn’t that I didn’t care, I simply didn’t make the time.

Here are three easy ways to stay connected to the people you care about, even when life is busy.

One: Schedule “Care Time”

During your moments of stillness, take a look at your schedule. Make sure you intentionally build in small pockets of time between meetings and errands. You might find yourself leaving the grocery store or heading to your next appointment when you unexpectedly see a friend you haven’t spoken to in a long time. If you have scheduled care time, you will have the freedom to pause and engage in a meaningful conversation.

It doesn’t have to take hours of your day, but you never know how much a few unhurried moments might mean to someone.

Two: Don’t Ignore the Heart Tap

Have you ever had someone on your mind, but you were too busy to reach out?

Then weeks or even months go by and you keep telling yourself that you should have contacted them. None of us want to live with those small regrets.

So, when someone comes to mind, take a moment to write their name down. I use the notes app on my phone and other times I jot their name in a small journal I keep in my purse. Then, during my next time of stillness, I plan how and when I will reach out. Sometimes it is a simple text letting them know I was thinking of them. Other times, when the feeling is heavier on my heart, I make it a point to set aside time for a call.

Time after time, that person ends up having something important to share or they simply appreciate the gesture of care.

Three: Keep a Prayer List

An ongoing prayer list does take time, but it is something I have never regretted starting. In my notes app, I keep a running list of people to pray for, many of whom come to mind during small moments throughout my day.

It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Often, I just type the person’s name with one key word to prompt my prayer.

I review this list each morning during my stillness and sometimes again throughout the day. I believe that continually praying for the well-being of others makes me feel as though I am offering a helping hand, even in the midst of my busy schedule.

My Prayer for You….

I truly pray that these simple practices help you slow down, reach out, and love more fully, and that they fill your days with the same peace and meaning they have given me.

“Let all that you do be done with love.” - 1 Corinthians 16:14 / NKJV
